Consumer Protection Officials Investigate Iowa City Mobile Home Park

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller personally toured the Regency mobile home park on Monday, and afterwards stated that things there needed to change. Miller's office is investigating a number of issues, including the park's rent payment process, how properties are transfered, dangerous living conditions, and water quality. Both Regency and its parent corporation, the Churchill Group of Carbondale, Colorado, are under an investigation which was undertaken last month after the Des Moines Register published a series of articles regarding safety hazards and potentially fraudulent sales practices by Regency.

Iowa's new consumer fraud act is designed to protect tenants subject to abuse by unscrupulous landlords and allow those tenants to recover damages. Brady & O'Shea has filed lawsuits, including class actions, under that statute. If you have questions about the legality of your landlord's actions, please contact us.
