Three months after the state of Iowa banned texting while driving, police continue to tryg to spread the word and educate motorists on the dangers of texting and driving. Police have placed their focus on teenagers with a safe driving campaign message.
Because teen drivers lack experience behind the wheel, they are the ones who definitely shouldn't be texting while driving. Even though the state of Iowa banned texting while driving, many people still engage in this act of distracted driving.
The statewide campaign is "TXTNG KILLS." Iowa state police are passing out bright colorful wrist bands with this message as an innovative way to get the message out to teens about texting while driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving is anything that takes a driver's eyes off the road, hands off the wheel, and mind off the road. Texting while driving includes all three areas of distracted driving, which are:
Manual - Driver takes hands off the wheel
Visual - Driver takes eyes off the road
Cognitive - Driver takes mind off the road
Texting while driving is dangerous and can lead to Iowa car accidents.
