9-Year-Old Boy Sent to Hospital After Iowa Hit-and-Run Crash

Posted on Aug 14, 2011

On Thursday, July 21, a little boy was hit by a car and seriously injured as he was crossing the street in the 100 block of South Third Street. Police said this Marshalltown, Iowa accident took place around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Witnesses of this Marshalltown crash said that a dark SUV-type vehicle hit the child but did not stop. Police looked in the area for a car that was involved in this hit-and-run, but they did not find any vehicle that was damaged from a collision that matched the description.

Christian Estrada, 9, sustained fractures to his hip, leg, and shoulder. He was taken to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, but his injuries were so severe that he was then transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Estrada has spent several days in the hospital, and has had surgery to mend his broken bones. They are expecting him to make a complete recovery, but they are not sure how long he will need to stay in the hospital at this time. The boy's grandmother said he is also having stomach problems.

However, Captain Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, indicated that the boy was in good condition.

The Marshalltown Police Department would like anyone with information about the hit-and-run accident to come forward, as police are still investigating the crash.

The Law Offices of Brady & O'Shea would like to extend our best wishes to Christian Estrada for a full and speedy recovery.
