On Monday, March 28, 2011, a serious accident occurred in Benton County involving two vehicles. Authorities say that the accident took place on U.S. Highway 30 in Newhall, Iowa.
According to the police, the wreck occurred around 7 a.m. on U.S. Hwy 30 near the intersection of County Road W14.
Alanna Steininger, 34, of Newhall, was traveling east in her pickup truck and was accelerating to get up to highway speeds. Another driver, 44-year-old Dawn Berger, of Blairstown, came quickly up from behind and overtook the pickup truck. Berger was driving a Chevrolet Impala, and according to the accident report, she swerved into the right lane and then back again. The Impala crashed into Steininger's pickup truck, injuring both drivers. The Impala continued south into a ditch, and the pickup truck came to a rest on the inside shoulder.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, both Benton County residents were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids for medical treatment.
Police are investigating this accident, and believe that the sun may have affected Berger's vision, according to the accident report.
Both drivers suffered debilitating injuries, and further information about their medical conditions is unknown at this time.
The Law Office of Brady & O'Shea would like to extend our thoughts to both victims of this serious Iowa accident, and wish them a full and fast recovery.
