Cedar Rapids Rollover Accident Delays Toddler from Play Date

Posted on Sep 10, 2011

On the morning of Tuesday, August 16, 2011, a crash occurred on the corner of 16th Avenue and West Post Road SW involving two vehicles. Authorities indicated that this Cedar Rapids accident occurred around 8:50 a.m. due to a car running a red light.

Cedar Rapids police indicated that a teenage male driver was traveling westbound on 16th Avenue SW when he ran a red light and crashed into a northbound SUV. The sport-utility vehicle was sent onto its side, causing airbags to deploy.

Inside the SUV was AnnaBella Dobler, a 21-month-old, and her father Matt Dobler, 32, of Cedar Rapids. He was taking his daughter to his brother's house for a play date when the accident occurred.

Mr. Dobler stated to authorities that his daughter was crying and screaming after the accident, but several people helped get her out through the back. After all the excitement of the incident wore off, little AnnaBella was calmly back in her father's arms.

The crash shut down the westbound lanes of 16th Avenue SW for a short time, but no ambulances were on the scene.

Police don't believe anyone was injured in this Cedar Rapids crash. They haven't released the teen's name, but they did cite him for disobeying a traffic control device.
