There is a class action settlement of $500,000 pending in the 14th Judicial Circuit Court of Rock Island County in the case Patterson v. JKLM, Inc. d/b/a McDonald's. This class action settlement is for victims who were exposed to the Hepatitis A virus at a Milan, IL McDonalds and received immunizations, but did not contract Hepatitis A.
Cody Patterson, a Quad Cities resident, dined at the Quad Cities McDonald's between June 1 and July 15, 2009 and was exposed to the Hepatitis A virus by McDonald's employees. He, along with thousands of others, was exposed to this virus and has joined this class action lawsuit against the restaurant in exchange for any future claims.
Over a year later, the court hearing will take place this September 16, 2010, and a decision will be reached to agree to this settlement or not.
There were thousands of other Quad Cities residents of eastern Iowa and western Illinois who were exposed to this virus. McDonald's did offer free vaccination shots last July, and more than 5,300 people followed the preventative measures after they dined at the Milan, IL McDonalds.
Unfortunately, there were 32 individuals who contracted Hepatitis A in the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois. The majority of these customers have filed separate lawsuits against this particular McDonald's franchise.
Hepatitis A is often spread by not washing hands after using the restroom and handling food immediately afterward. This virus causes inflammation to the liver.
