In November 2010, the FDA announced that Darvon and Darvocet would be removed from the market as a result of a voluntary recall by Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, the makers of the drug. The FDA sought the recall because of the risk of serious or even fatal heart rhythm abnormalities.
Darvon and Darvocet are opioid medication used to treat mild to moderate paid. Darvon is the brand name for propoxyphene alone and Darvocet is the brand name for propoxyphene combined with acetaminophen.
The recall followed the FDA's further review of available date regarding the drug and a newly conducted study.
