On Monday, December 6, 2010, a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a Davenport house after the car lost control in a steep alley. Police said the driver of the pickup was found lying on the ground outside of his car at 6 a.m. Monday morning, after the pickup hit the house located at 1219 Tremont Avenue.
Police said the Iowa car accident occurred around 4 a.m. when the pickup truck smashed into a house. The 24-year-old male driver appeared to have crawled out of the passenger side of the car and fallen to the ground before being found two hours later. He was discovered lying in the snow outside of the vehicle and appeared to have sustained serious injuries.
Philip Axtell, a Quad City Mallard hockey player, was identified as the driver and was taken to an Iowa City hospital for medical treatment as he sustained serious, non life-threatening injuries. Police said that they believe that Axtell was drinking prior to the car crash.
Axtell's coach was asked if the hockey player's season was over, and the coach wouldn't answer if Axtell would be joining the team again until he was provided with more information. Axtell was interviewed at the beginning of the season, and said that he had given up drinking and wanted to rededicate himself to hockey and resume his hockey career.
The American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities area is assisting the owners of the house that Axtell hit. They are giving the family of that house temporary shelter and food for two adults and five children.
We are glad to hear that no one in the house sustained any injuries and we hope the family will be able to return home soon. We also wish Phillip Axtell a fast and full recovery from his injuries.
