Drowsy Driving May Have Contributed to Iowa Car Crash

Posted on May 04, 2011

On April 10, 2011, an accident on Interstate 80 involved an Iowa football player. Officials indicate that this Des Moines car crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the police report, Iowa State Trooper Matt Costello said that a pickup truck veered off the road and hit a guardrail. The crash occurred around mile marker 255 on I-80, near the West Branch interchange.
Dan Heiar, the driver of the pickup truck, was traveling westbound when his truck went off the side of the road and down a hill, after hitting a guardrail. When his truck came to a stop, he was pinned inside the vehicle.

Once emergency responders got to the accident scene, they worked on freeing Heiar; however, it took about one hour for officials to free him from his truck. Once he was rescued, Heiar was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals for medical care. It is unknown what injuries, if any, Dan Heiar may have suffered in this Iowa accident.

Iowa law enforcement indicated that there was a lack of braking signs, which indicates that the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Police are still investigation this accident.

The Law Office of Brady & O'Shea would like to wish Dan Heiar a full recovery.
