Drunk Driver Causes Deadly Motorcycle Accident in Quad Cities

Posted on Sep 08, 2010

On August 22, 2010 a deadly motorcycle accident took place on U.S. Highway 67 in the Iowa Quad Cities. This early Sunday evening crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. near LeClaire, Iowa, and involved a motorcycle and two passenger vehicles.

The motorcycle driver was riding southbound on Hwy 67 when a vehicle traveling northbound pulled out in front of him and attempted to make a left hand turn. The motorcycle driver and his passenger hit the car turning left and the vehicle behind it. The motorcycle driver, 55-year-old John H. Clifford of Galesburg, was transported to Genesis Medical Center-East Campus in Davenport for medical treatment. He sadly lost his life in this deadly Iowa car accident. He was traveling with 53-year-old Kathy Clifford, who remains in serious condition.

The car that attempted to make a left turn was driven by 45-year-old Jean Clark of LeClaire. The Iowa State Patrol said she was traveling northbound in the 2100 block of Hwy 67 when she pulled out in front of Clifford. Clark was injured in the crash, and she was also charged with drunk driving. The Iowa State Patrol arrested her for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Clark was released after she paid a $1,000 bond.

A portion of the highway was closed for cleanup and investigation which lasted for several hours after the accident.

We are saddened to hear of this deadly motorcycle crash. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim's family and friends during this difficult time.
