On Monday, June 20, 2011, an eastern Iowa car accident occurred, causing injuries and sending one to the hospital. Authorities report that this wreck occurred around 4:30 Monday afternoon, near Monticello, IA.
The Jones County Sheriff's Office received several 911 emergency calls describing a two-vehicle accident on Highway 151. Witnesses reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of County Road D65 and Highway 151, approximately one mile northeast of Monticello.
When the Jones County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene, they were assisted by the Monticello Police Department, Monticello Fire Department, Monticello Ambulance, Jones County Conservation Enforcement, and lifeguard air ambulance.
Dustin Wink, the 23-year-old driver of a white 2000 Chevy Lumina, was traveling eastbound on County Road D65 when he did not yield at a stop sign and drove into the path of a tractor-trailer. The semi truck was traveling southbound on Highway 151, and hit the Lumina on the driver's door and front corner panel. After impact occurred, the Lumina rolled into a ditch.
Jeffrey Steinke, the 54-year-old driver of the 2000 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, pulled to the side of the road after the collision. Steinke, of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin, was uninjured in the crash. However, Wink, of Wyoming, Iowa, was seriously injured in this Iowa truck and car crash.
Wink was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical care. It is reported that he did sustain life-threatening injuries in this wreck.
The Jones County Sheriff's Office is still investigating this accident.
The Law Offices of Brady & O'Shea is saddened to hear of this tragic crash and would like to wish Dustin Wink a complete and speedy recovery.
