Farmer Discovers Deadly Iowa Car Crash

Posted on Aug 12, 2010

On Sunday, July 25, 2010 a farmer was inspecting his fence off Herbert Hoover Highway and found a wrecked car in his field. He called the accident in to authorities at approximately 8 a.m. Iowa City police, Iowa State Patrol, Johnson County Sheriff and a Johnson County ambulance all arrived at the scene.

The Iowa State Police believe the driver of the 2009 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Herbert Hoover Highway, lost control coming around a curve, went off the side of the road, and rolled several times before coming to a rest in the farmer’s field. No one knows exactly when the car crash took place.

Investigators are trying to figure out who was driving as well as an estimated time frame that this accident occurred.

Three of the victims were thrown from the car as reports show they were not wearing their seat belts.  Sadly, all four victims died in the crash. The victims were identified as 27-year-old Rebecca J. Frea and 27-year-old Jason R. Onsgard from Iowa City, 27-year-old Heather L. Althiser and 26-year-old Joseph W. Vinopal of Wisconsin. The accident is still under investigation.

Iowa car accidents can be deadly, and we strongly urge drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Our condolences are with the victims’ family and friends during this extremely difficult time.
