On Monday, March 7, 2011, a pickup collided with a minivan on Highway 30 in Tama County, Iowa. Authorities said the pickup crossed the centerline and hit the minivan head-on around 2:10 p.m. on Monday.
Laine R. Dennison, the 47-year-old driver of the pickup truck, was driving west on Highway 30 near Highway 21 when he drove into oncoming traffic. His pickup truck hit a minivan driven by 26-year-old Joseph Starits, of Toledo. Sadly, this Iowa car accident led to the death of Mr. Starits.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the passengers in the minivan were injured and were taken to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. The two passengers are 24-year-old Elizabeth Starits and Tristan Starits. Mr. Dennison was also transported to this same hospital for medical treatment. All three have been treated and discharged.
Mr. Dennison, of North Liberty, has charges pending against him due to the fatal crash. He also has an extensive traffic violation record. He has received 38 speeding tickets, six seat belt violations, two convictions for driving while barred, one conviction for failure to maintain control, and one conviction for careless driving. Most of the speeding convictions were obtained in Eastern Iowa in Linn County and Johnson County.
Mr. Dennison will now be faced with charges and having to defend his driving record in Iowa Court.
The attorneys at Brady & O'Shea would like to send out condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Starits, and we would also like to wish the other victims a full and speedy recovery from the injuries they sustained in this Iowa car accident.
