Fatal Pedestrian Accident Involving Semi Truck Near North Liberty

Posted on Apr 26, 2011

On Friday, April 8, 2011, one person was tragically killed on Interstate 380 near North Liberty, Iowa. According to reports, the Iowa truck accident happened on north I-380, near the 5 mile marker around noon.

According to authorities, a truck driver hit and killed a pedestrian. The tractor-trailer, driven by Kenneth Pilkenton, 52, was traveling north on I-380 when a pedestrian walked into his path. The truck driver explained that he did attempt to steer away and brake, but he could not avoid the pedestrian.

According to Iowa Highway Patrol, the pedestrian exited his vehicle that was parked on the shoulder and walked into the truck's path.

The pedestrian, the driver of a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder, was identified as 55-year-old Thomas Lee Tvedte, of Iowa City. According to Iowa State Patrol, Tvedte was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Patrol and Johnson County Sheriff's Office are still investigating the cause of the crash as they do not know why this man stepped into the path of a semi truck.

Traffic on I-380 northbound, near North Liberty, was backed up as the interstate was down to one lane due to this fatal accident, investigation and cleanup.

The Law Office of Brady & O'Shea is saddened to hear of this news and send our condolences to Mr. Tvedte's family and friends.
