Iowa Man Trapped in Car Rescued Seconds Before his Car Caught on Fire

On Monday, November 8, 2010, a car accident occurred on a highway just outside of Cedar Rapids when a man crashed his car and rolled it three times. Another driver who was passing by came upon the accident just moments after it occurred and wanted to help rescue this stranger.
Barbara Peterson saw that a man was trapped in his car and attempted to rescue him. It turned out that driver David Jones was hung up by his seat belt. The passerby tried to open the doors to the car, but they wouldn't open. She then got on top of the car and tried to kick out the windshield and break it with her bare hands. At that point, two other men came along side of her to help her kick out the rest of the windshield and bring David Jones to safety.
Just seconds after they rescued the trapped driver, the car burst into flames and exploded. David Jones only suffered minor injuries and was able to walk away from this accident, thanks to these rescuers.
Barbara Peterson, a nurse from Iowa, thought she was going to watch someone burn to death because she saw the flames coming from the car. Thankfully, due to her hard work and the aid of these other men, they were able to rescue David Jones.
We are glad to hear of heroic efforts by these rescuers and wish David Jones and quick and full recovery.
