On Monday, October 3, 2011, a rollover crash in Cedar Rapids occurred on a busy street in Eastern Iowa, injuring two men. Authorities said firefighters had to pull one man out of his vehicle after it rolled on its side.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. on 16th Avenue near 18th Street SW. Cedar Rapids Police indicated that Willie Roberson, of Cedar Rapids, was traveling eastbound on 16th when he attempted to turn left across oncoming traffic toward a driveway.
Cedar Rapids resident Leonard Willard, 73, was driving a pickup truck that struck the car 59-year-old Roberson was traveling in. Additionally, Dick Cambridge, 70, of Cedar Rapids hit Roberson's vehicle.
The force of the impact caused Roberson's pickup truck to roll onto its side, trapping him inside the vehicle.
When rescue crews arrived, firefighters had to pull him out and ambulance drivers took him to Mercy Medical Center. Roberson did sustain injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening.
Willard, the drive of the other pickup truck, was also injured in the wreck. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, and his injuries are not life-threatening either.
Police indicated that Roberson was driving into the sun, and they are not sure at this point whether the sun was a factor in this crash.
Cedar Rapids police have charged Roberson with failure to yield and failure to have a valid driver's license.
The Law Offices of Brady & O'Shea would like to wish the men injured in this Cedar Rapids accident a quick and complete recovery.
