Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Lands Three in Jail After Eastern Iowa Crashes

Posted on Dec 26, 2011

On November 20, 2011, a Waterloo accident occurred in which police officers were called to a crash around 5 p.m. to the area of Sergeant Road and Washington Street. They indicated that one of the drivers drove the wrong way down a one-way street and hit another car.
After an investigation, police determined that Antonio Avila was driving the wrong way, resulting in the collision between his car and Andrea Clements’ vehicle. 31-year-old Clements, of Cedar Rapids, was transported to Allen Hospital with minor injuries.
Avila, 49, of Waterloo, blew a 1.89 blood alcohol during a breath test. Waterloo officers arrested him for operating while intoxicated (OWI) and took him to jail.
Just a couple weeks prior to this incident, two people were charged with OWI after a Cedar Rapids crash. Police stated that Jeremy Farr, 27, of Cedar Rapids and Samantha Kleinschmidt, 20, of Cedar Rapids were traveling in the area of 15th Street NW when officers responded to a crash.
The pickup truck Farr was driving smashed into three parked cars. The truck got stuck, and Farr got out to fix it. His passenger slid into the driver’s seat, and was there when officers arrived. According to the reports, both had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. They both failed the field sobriety tests and were arrested, landing them in jail.
The Law Offices of Brady & O’Shea would like to remind Eastern Iowa drivers to not get behind the wheel while intoxicated. We would also like to wish everyone involved in these Eastern Iowa crashes a complete recovery.
