Pregnant Woman Taken to Hospital After Cedar Rapids Crash

Posted on Aug 04, 2011

On Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011, a single-vehicle accident in Cedar Rapids took place on a quiet residential street in the 2000 block of E Avenue NE.

Cedar Rapids police indicated that 20-year-old Jessica Mullen, of Cedar Rapids, was driving her minivan around 7 a.m. when the crash occurred. Her boyfriend, 25-year-old Brian Howell, advised police that she was taking him to work and had just left their home moments earlier.

It appears that Jessica looked down for a moment, whereupon she struck a wooden pole. Because she was 13 weeks pregnant, an ambulance transported her to St. Luke's Hospital out of precaution. There is no word about her medical condition or the baby's medical condition at this time.

The pole she crashed into was an Alliant Energy utility pole. The crash splintered the bottom of the pole and knocked down a street lamp. Crews at Alliant Energy are inspecting the pole to see if it needs to be replaced.

The Law Offices of Brady & O'Shea would like to extend our best wishes to Jessica Mullen and her unborn child.
