SUV Rolls Into River After Sliding Off an Icy Road in Northeast Iowa

Posted on Dec 19, 2010

On Sunday, December 5, 2010, a one-car accident occurred near Anamosa, Iowa when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) slid off a wet road and rolled into a river, leaving the driver's car totaled. Authorities that arrived on scene said that no one was hurt in this crash. The driver remained uninjured even though her car was totaled.

The driver, 18-year-old Haily A. Sams, of Anamosa, was driving westbound on Buffalo Road just west of Anamosa about two miles, when she lost control of her vehicle. Officials reported that she was driving on a snow and ice-covered road when she rolled her SUV. The vehicle went off the side of the road, through the east ditch, and rolled before coming to a stop. The SUV actually came to a rest on its wheels after rolling into the river.

Just after noon on Sunday, Sams found herself in the Buffalo River in northeast Iowa. According to the Jones County Sheriff's Office, the driver was able to get out of her SUV by herself and did not appear injured.

Authorities said the SUV was totaled, but thankfully no one was hurt in this Iowa car crash.

We are glad to hear that Haily Sams was not injured in this icy wreck and want to continue to remind motorists in Iowa to be careful driving in winter weather conditions as roads may be slick.
