On Thursday, September 8, 2011, two teenage girls were involved in a Cedar Rapids car crash that took place on Edgewood Road early Thursday morning.
The teenage girls were in route to Kennedy High School and had just left home. The traffic was moving slowly, just south of Glass Road NE, when the teenage driver attempted to pass vehicles on the gravel shoulder. She lost control of her vehicle as the car fish-tailed into a drainage ditch, flipping over.
Witnesses to the crash rushed to help the two teenagers, but couldn't get them out of their car. When firefighters got there, they found the car lying on its top in a ditch. They had to cut the door off in order for the girls to get out of the car.
When the girls emerged, they were crying, but did not seem injured. Amazingly, they walked away from this rollover crash in Cedar Rapids.
Police identified the driver as 16-year-old Emily Loney, of Cedar Rapids, and Marissa Prull, 15, of Cedar Rapids was the passenger in the car. Loney had just spent the night at the Prull's residence and was taking Marissa to school.
Loney will be facing charges of improper passing and failure to maintain control, according to Sgt. Robert Collins.
The Law Offices of Brady & O'Shea is glad to hear that the two teenage girls were not injured, and are hoping new drivers learn a lesson from this incident.
